Thoughts In a Whirlwind: Temporality, Time, Transformation, Trickery!
Provoked by "Ebora: The Ifa Concept of the Hero's Journey"
Writers read, too!
And sometimes I don’t finish the whole piece, but I think I’m on the path to 100% for Awo Fa’lokun Fatunmbi’s text Ebora. I started reading on (I believe) the 11th of September. But here are the incomplete ideas it’s supposed to my mind. Short because I’m digesting and supposing (and vetting the author). These are inquiries into the mysteries of life’s “why” as inspired by one person’s viewpoint into Ifa. Here we go…
Life is not created, it is SOURCED
Matter can be neither created nor destroyed. All creation is an act of division. Expansion is the act of creating space between different consciousness (life) while contraction brings us closer together. Expansion stretches what exists and makes a way. Contraction brings life closer together.
2 is 1+1. 2 is also a whole divided in half. Aka “I am [the one] because we are [the 2, the crew].” I believe I heard this a while ago as a proverb from the African continent. Was it Death and the Invisible Powers: The World of Kongo Belief?
If this is what expansion and contraction are, what might the act of birth be a representation of, cosmically?
NEXT
Esu is both contraction AND EXPANSION. Contraction because KNOW THYSELF and the nature of nature. Therefore, the primordial role as Divine Enforcer is enacted. Esu is expansion because transformation. We start as the seed and must initiate to higher levels of consciousness. The role of Divine Trickster: our circle of consciousness grows larger and larger as we pass through doorway after doorway.
Trickster how? The communion between knowing thyself and knowing you can never know all of thyself because we are limited in our understanding of universality by the relative perspective of singular personhood. Aka the universe is endless, and I can only ever have my own viewpoint into it.
To fear change or growth is to fear the door to your own expanding home?
On Writing,
Inspired by the child Trickster created by N.K. Jemisin, my poems took a shift in 2022 and 2023. Honoring the vibe of kindred spirits, nature, childish wonder, and emotional states polarizing in their singular strength or charm. And so was built a poetry book to hold these works. I submitted my manuscript for publishing on August 31 for the first time, and it feels on target to share the pitch I sent along with it. I will be keeping the prospective title a secret however!
As you read it, you may suppose that some of the words and ideas are inspired or even loaned by the book mentioned above. But the serendipity of it is that I knew nothing of the existence of Ebora when I wrote it. These are my own words, inspired by life experiences that have given me the depth to pull such synchronicities from Spirit, amen! Enjoy…
